The Dusty Futon

What is the Dusty Futon?
I’m glad you asked!  The Dusty Futon was born out of the mind of Big Jon and Tyler.  We both knew we wanted to do a podcast to practice our “on-air skills” behind a microphone, but we weren’t exactly sure the direction we were heading.  

Big Jon’s garage in East County San Diego, CA was the original home of the The Dusty Futon.  The name came from a dusty old futon that is in the garage where Big Jon lived, but it’s become something more symbolic than that now.  The true owner of the “original” Dusty Futon will not be named; however, he has “granted” us permission to use it.  The CONCEPT of The Dusty Futon has developed into a place where musicians can connect with their fans…for free…and for fun!

After a few episodes, Big Jon and Tyler started seeing a pattern at their recording sessions: We always ended up relating everything to music and music to life.  It was then that we decided to focus on music in every episode! 

Big Jon and Tyler both have a passion for music in different ways.  Big Jon is more of a singer/songwriter kind of guy who grew up as a percussionist and then later picked up the guitar and other instruments.  He uses his interviewing skills and personal experience to relate with local independent musicians. Tyler is a guitarist who has honed his craft through years of axe slashing.  He has also studied music extensively over the years and is well versed in pop culture. Both of them fancy themselves as funny individuals… but that’s really for you to decide.

Their personality differences shine through this creation that grew out of their brainchild called…The Dusty Futon!

After a few moves and multiple adjustments to the format, The Dusty Futon found it’s stride.  Over 100 Episodes and dozens of bands and solo artists later, The Dusty Futon still provides enjoyment, outreach, and exposure to many musicians and music lovers alike.
